THE VINEYARD

History

A place already chosen by the Romans to plant their vines, managed for a few centuries by the Archdiocese of Aix-en-Provence, divided into several parcels after the revolution, the area of the Château Pigoudet is about the same since the year 1820. In the present, for more than 25 years in the ownership of the Rabe family, this sumptuous place shaped by history, was turned to excellence by Sabine Rabe and her husband, Hans-Ulrich. Today, Château Pigoudet is one of the most renowned vineyards for the quality of its products in the region, in particular for its recognizable rosés.

The location

Nestled in the shadow of the Sainte-Victoire massif, the vineyard of Château Pigoudet is the northernmost of Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, its protected designation of origin. With its 40 hectares of vines, facing south, 400 meters above sea level, it enjoys an exceptional situation that contributes greatly to the success of its harvest. Its late  harvests, the last of Provence, made at nightfall, mark the two traits of its wines: freshness and maturity.

The grapes

Under the experienced eye of the head of culture, Daniel Laugier, who has been caring for these lands for 30 years, and now assisted by his son Benoît, four grape varieties are fairly cultivated for reds and rosés: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cinsault and Grenache, plus three white grapes grown on a small area of five hectares: Vermentino, Sauvignon and Grenache blanc.

Soustainable Agriculture

For several years, Château Pigoudet has given back its place to nature and the environment and has embarked on a reasoned viticulture approach that favors the use of "organic manures" and advocates the parsimonious treatment of vines on a case by case basis. Château Pigoudet thus marks its mark of distinction, where quality and transparency nourish its fundamental values. In 2019 we received the label HVE (HautValeurEnviromental).

Winemaking of our rosé
and white wines

Key to the rosé and white wines of Château Pigoudet is the brand new cellar. It is today one of the most modern in Provence and a prerequisite for creating exceptional wines every year. The cellar team, young and dynamic with its leitmotiv "always more quality" can elaborate all the subtle aromas with the help of the cold, under nitrogen on optimal conditions.

Winemaking of our red wines

The reds from selected plots also require special attention during several stages. A cold pre-fermentation maceration of one week to ten days for the first phase, followed by fermentation and final hot maceration. Then a phase of malolactic fermentation under a long fermentation vat. All this gives us the soft, rich and powerful red wines Château Pigoudet offers.
